Rescued Tango in fall of 2007. He had diarrhea on and off for an entire year.
I struggled to find a dog that didn't upset his stomach. Surprisingly Beneful was the only kibble food that kept his stomach calm for most of the time.
Every time his stomach upset him, I would search online about how to remedy his diarrhea. That is where I kept stumbling into people promoting Raw feeding for their danes.
I did TONS of reading on it, I lived in a condo on the third floor at the time and was wondering about the logistics of feeding him.
In May of 2008 he had yet another episode of diarrhea for at least a week and I had nothing to lose at that point.
I finally just jumped in and did it. I started with chicken backs and he had to learn a new way of eating, but he was VERY enthusiastic about trying to eat chicken.
His symptoms cleared up IMMEDIATELY the next day and there has never been another issue since. I have all three of my dogs on Raw, Prey Model.
Their teeth are immaculate, breath is non existent, they don't have a "dog" smell.
The diet is mainly chicken leg quarters, I use the 10lb bag at the grocery store and break them into daily meals in the plastic bags from the grocery store.
My father hunts so I periodically make them a meatball mixed with eggs (shells included), liver, and whatever meat and scraps my dad has left over (elk, deer, birds, fish)
I should probably vary their diet more, I would say the chicken to other food percentage is 95%.
BUT, the dogs are healthy, happy, clean, and well adjusted.
